Vital care tips for your rose garden

Roses have long been considered to be the most beautiful flowers in the world. Rose has become a cryptic icon that writers, poets and other artists have depicted it in so many ways. Rose can represent love, friendship and sometimes even death. They are so enigmatic that people buy them even at the most expensive price. But the best way of acquiring roses any time you want is by starting your own rose garden. Rose gardens are one of the most beautiful gardens that a lawn could have. It exhibits peace and serenity and would surely be an object of envy to your neighbors.

However, rose gardening is a different from basic gardening. Roses require an extra mile when it comes to maintenance so you should be ready to handle the task. There are also more things to consider like giving more time and affection to your plants. Rose gardens prosper if they are taken care of dutifully and seriously. So you have to be prepared if you want your own rose garden. To help you out in starting your own rose garden, here are some vital tips that you should learn.

Preparing your lawn

The first and the most important thing that you should consider is the soil in your lawn. Loam is the best soil where plants grow, so make sure that your soil is suitable for planting. You can ask for assistance in your local garden store to check the quality of your soil and what are the necessary steps to take so you can start your garden. Aside from this, you should also add some compost before starting to ensure that your soil is complete with nutrients and minerals. You can usually buy compost in your local garden store.

However, you can also make your own compost pit. Just look for a dry and suitable place where you can store your organic matters like dried leaves and fruit peelings. After that just cover it with at least 6 inches of soil. Wait for the materials to mix with the soil and voila, you have your own compost.

Make sure that sunlight is available in your spot. Roses require a lot of sunlight so be sure that the spot has sunlight for at least 6 hours everyday. Make sure that your location is big enough to handle the growth of your rose. Crowded rose bushes will surely wither because the plants also need a lot of ventilation.

Choosing the type of rose

Make sure that the type of rose that you will plant grows easily in the type of climate that your area has. Agreeing with mother nature's way is the best garden tool that you can have so make sure that you will not 'force' your roses to grow if they are not fit for your climate. Some rose types require more sunlight or some require less watering or humidity so be sure that you know the type of rose that you want to plant. The best thing on how to determine this is to visit your local garden store and ask them about the best type of roses that you can plant in your lawn.

Planting and caring

After choosing the best spot and the best type of rose, you can now start planting them. Make sure that you buy a good set of plants to ensure that they will grow when you plant them. In planting individual shrubs, dig a big hole that is almost twice the size of the plant. You need to do this to make sure that the soil is well tilled and aeration will be easier. You can also pick that plant later if you would like to transfer it in a pot. Make sure that you understand the nature of the growth of your rose types, and space them out accordingly.

For the first few weeks it also needs a lot of watering. Roses require a lot of moisture in the soil for proper aeration and food consumption. After a month or so you can limit your watering for once or twice a week depending on the weather. Applying fertilizers is also advisable but sometimes it either stunts the growth of your roses or it may grow too fast for you to manage. Organic fertilizer is the best since it has no chemicals and everything on it can be consumed by the plant. Remember to apply basic fertilizing techniques to ensure it will not harm your plants.

Pruning your roses is a requirement to ensure its great form and to make it healthy. Remove all dead leaves and branches as soon as you can. Be sure to sharpen your pruning shears since rose branches are tougher than most plants. Make sure that your tools are clean to avoid damage and disease to your plants. Prune your roses for proper ventilation and direct their growth according to your taste.

Rose gardening can be a little challenging especially if you are a novice. But just think of the pleasure that you will get when your plants start blossoming. Rose gardens smell lovely and they give your home an air of elegance and beauty. So if you are serious about making your own bouquet of rose from your own garden, make sure you remember these tips.
